Review Roundup: Should you upgrade to Apple’s new AirPods? Let’s see what reviewers are saying

Image
Apple outfitted the new AirPods with a new design and upgraded sound and the results are promising. For Apple fans, the introduction of AirPods was revolutionary. The true wireless earbuds were initially introduced nearly five years ago, and they have seen a few different upgrades and iterations since. This week, the company’s highly anticipated third-generation of AirPods finally hit the market, and reviewers have already gotten their hands on the new earbuds. The AirPods 3, or 3rd Generation as Apple is calling them, features a pretty big design overhaul, bringing them closer in line with the higher-end AirPods Pro. The earbuds also feature a decent upgrade in sound with a new custom driver. The AirPods 3 seem to be presented as a sort of middle ground between the second-generation earbuds and the Pros. The price of the new earbuds is situated right in between the two, at $179, and they include significant upgrades over the AirPods 2, but lack a few premium feature...

Whistleblower: Facebook's response to child abuse 'inadequate'

Image
A former Facebook employee has told US authorities the company's efforts to remove child abuse material from the platform were "inadequate" and "under-resourced". The allegations are contained in documents seen by BBC News and submitted  to  the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) two weeks ago. The anonymous whistleblower says moderators are "not sufficiently trained and are ill prepared". "We've funded and helped build the tools used by industry to investigate this terrible crime, rescue children and bring justice to victims." It added that it has shared its anti-abuse technologies with other companies. The revelations come after former insider Frances Haugen told the US congress earlier this month that Facebook's platforms "harm children, stoke division and harm our democracy...

Despite the strong voting results, many advisers had concerns and caveats. A panel of independent medical experts advising the Food and Drug Administration voted 17 to 0 (with one abstention) this afternoon in favor of authorizing the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for use in children ages 5 to 11 years old. The vote is a key step toward the first pediatric COVID-19 vaccine in the US. Next, the FDA will need to sign off on the recommendation from the advisory panel—the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC)—and issue an emergency use authorization for the 5-to-11 age group. That FDA authorization is expected within days. Once that occurs, the federal government will begin shipping pediatric doses of the vaccine to states for distribution at clinics, pharmacies, and pediatricians' offices. But before doses can go into any little arms, a panel of independent experts for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will also need to weigh in. That pan...
